Malte Haaning Plastic A/S was founded in Denmark by Malte Haaning in 1961, initially producing drinking straws.

In 1971, the popular Midi beads were introduced, which today account for the majority of the company's revenue. Later, Mini beads followed in 1978 and Maxi beads in 1982.

A key milestone came in the late 1970s when Malte Haaning developed the ironing method. Before this, the beads were glued onto plastic trays or cardboard sheets.
